Colonia, Uruguay

My trip to Buenos Aires and Ecuador 12/06-1/07

Well finally! Here is a place we can share our ordinary and not so ordinary thoughts and experiences. For starters I am posting pictures of my trip to see Sunah and meet her three children - Rafael David, Andrea, and Gabriel.

I left for Buenos Aires on December 26th. Sunah moved there from Quito almost four years ago for the UNICEF post. It was a big move with all kinds of promise and uncertainty. It was of course an amazing overlap given my many trips to Buenos Aires. It is a beautiful city. The opportunity to go there and relish it with Sunah was an amazing gift.

The time in Buenos Aires was relaxing and wonderful. I enjoyed meeting Sunah's kids and Rafa's girlfriend Steph who had flown over from Germany. A small United Nations unto ourselves we went out for food, hung out at home and generally soaked up the summer warmth with parillas, vino, movies and trips around town. There are not many pictures of the time there but some will soon be posted from Sunah's or Rafa's cameras I hope. I tuned out on the picture taking I guess!

We flew to Quito on January 6th. What a return. This is the airport I vividly remember saying goodbye to Sunah at in 1982. Her parents met us at the airport. That evening we had a lavish Korean spread of dishes at their house, all home made by Sunah's stepmother.

The next week was a rush of mountains, familiar places, roads and a visit to Shell to see mom and dad. Along the way we snuck in hikes and lots of little treats that road trips offer.

I look forward to using this site for many other things and hopefully other postings from other families.

Let's enjoy it!
